Dance is on the Move! Artistic Director Randy Swartz explains why Dance Affiliates is moving to the Prince Theater

After 32 years at the Annenberg Center, the Dance Affiliates sponsored series is moving to the Prince Theater in Center City, Philadelphia. Dance Celebration’s name is being retired and our new name is “NextMove Dance at the Prince.”
The Prince is a 450 seat fully equipped theater with great sight lines and access. It was recently purchased for the Philadelphia Film Society and they are sprucing up the theater for its rebirth. We are very excited about this opportunity and I will tell you why.

With 450 seats we have added a Wednesday evening and Sunday matinee to the schedule. The audience has more performances to choose from, and the dance companies have more time in Philadelphia to do additional outreach, educational and audience engagement work. At the Prince we have more available dates to choose from to bring in companies we want to present.

The Prince is located in the heart of Philadelphia a few steps from the Avenue of the Arts. Public transportation, both subway and bus stops, are located nearby. Evening parking is accessible and we will be offering a $10 rate for ticket holders. Central location, more performances and programming connecting to and engaging, the audience makes the Prince an excellent home for dance. For a limited time (June 30th) subscriptions start at just $21 per ticket.

Our line-up is stock full of the best touring companies in the world. The seasons starts October 13 with Complexions, founded by two Ailey dancers Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson. Dwight, the choreographer, Desmond the world class dancer. This company brings a gritty cosmopolitan feel as they fuse ballet, contemporary and popular styles. Dwight and Desmond have been regular guests on “So You Think You Can Dance” and have choreographed for “Dancing With The Stars” along with numerous ballet and contemporary companies. Both men are popular on the dance competition and convention circuit. Their repertory is upbeat, high energy, very kinetic and accessible.

We will have more specific information later in the summer about “Complexions,” and the rest of the season’s line up. Up to date info will be posted to our website at www.danceaffiliates.org. Early bird subscriptions are available now through the end of June. Those subscriptions can save you up to $192 over single ticket prices, but prices will be going up July 1.
